The Hotel Live Experience will take place over one week in September 2017, and will feature a series of interactive and immersive events run by individual participating hotels.

The experiences – so much more than work experience – will showcase the industry and highlight the various career streams and entry points available.

Culinary Masterclass Four Seasons Sydney

Foodies who are interested in a culinary career will love this experience. Join this masterclass with our top talent in the kitchen, led by Michael Mousseau, in a live kitchen demonstration at Four Seasons Sydney. Learn about the latest food trends and sustainable sourcing. If you’re lucky, you might even get to try what’s cooking!

A day in the life of…Front Office @ Atura Blacktown

This is a four-day experience that truly allows you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the operations of a hotel front office. You will shadow our front office team as they run the division for the week, working alongside the Guest Service Agents and truly learn how Front Office operates.

#OvololovesOMG @ Ovolo Woolloomooloo

You only get one chance to make an awesome first impression. For 24 hours you will take charge of our Ovolo Meet n Greet Team (OMG), whose mission is to make “Memorable Experiences” for each and every guest. Working with the entire team you’ll need to create, plan and execute an OMG arrival experience for all our guests checking in that day, ensuring their arrival experience truly is O>M>G

Charity Experience: Artz-ology @ Sofitel Wentworth

Ideal for anyone interested in event management, successful candidates will spend the entire day with our Events team, setting up and then attending a charity event at Sofitel Wentworth! Set up of the event will take place between 10am and 3pm. Then you will have time to get ready before attending the event from 6.30pm to 10pm.

Creative culinary food and wine experience at Amora Hotel Jamison Sydney

You are cordially invited to a gourmet lunch in one of Amora Hotel Jamison’s restaurants: however, there’s a twist – you’ll have to prepare and cook it yourself. Spend the day mastering the art of pairing wine with food, experience a gourmet cooking class with our Executive Chef and learn all about the operations of a hotel kitchen with some industry tips and tricks thrown in for good measure.

A backstage pass @ Park Hyatt Sydney – Human Resources

Unfold a journey of rare and intimate experiences at Park Hyatt Sydney and be escorted “backstage” – otherwise known as our heart-of-house – to learn about Human Resources accompanied by the Director of Human Resources and Assistant Human Resources Manager. PLUS attend The Guest House for a 30-minute party with key managers and meet key Corporate Leadership trainees.

I want to be a Hotel Manager @ Holiday Inn Old Sydney

Take a sneak peak at the life of a Hotel Manager as you spend two hours shadowing the Operations Manager, followed by a Q&A session with the Human Resources Manager.

WHEN IS THE HOTEL LIVE EXPERIENCE?

All of the experiences in the Hotel Live Experience will take place during the week of 25th – 29th September 2017.

HOW LONG DO THE EXPERIENCES GO FOR?

There is a huge variety of experiences – some go for an hour, some last an afternoon, some take place over a whole day and there are even some that go for the whole week. Your best bet is to check out our list of experiences and find out what works for you!

WHAT EXACTLY IS THE HOTEL LIVE EXPERIENCE?

It’s a choice of events and experiences across our participating hotels that offer insights and the opportunity to get hands on so you can find out what it is really like to work in hotels. It’s like work experience for the 21st Century. There are over 80 experiences across a huge range of interest areas.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

We invite high school students, tertiary (university, TAFE etc) students, young professionals, young professionals already working in the accommodation industry, and anyone who is looking for a career change to register for the Hotel Live Experience. There are plenty of experiences for under 18s and over 18s alike. Note that some experiences are only available to Australian residents / citizens. As these events are all based in NSW, only residents of NSW are eligible.

WILL I DEFINITELY GET A PLACE IN THE EXPERIENCES I REGISTER FOR?

At this stage, the registration process is a registration of interest only. Some of our experiences are incredibly popular or require a certain level of experiences or education. The participating hotels will be given the final choice as to who will be offered place/s in each experience. You will be advised of the experiences for which you have been accepted later in August.

WHAT TYPES OF EXPERIENCES ARE AVAILABLE?

There are a huge variety of experiences across a number of professional interest areas including marketing, sales, finance, IT, Hotel Operations, events, food and beverage, engineering and culinary. From 1 hour back of house hotel tours, to “General Manager for a day”, to helping run a five-star restaurant, to one-week internships – there’s something for everyone in the 2017 Hotel Live Experience.

In 2016, nearly 3,000 students registered to participate in the Hotel Live Experience, and many were later offered roles in the hotels they visited.
