What does my role entail? Serving food, supervising shifts, handling guests, service and upholding brand standards.
How I got my start in the hotel industry: I started working in the hotel as an F&B Attendant opportunity opened up for me.
Why do you like working in Hotels? I like a hands-on job, and I get to meet a lot of people.
What surprised you about working in hotels? It’s surprisingly challenging, but satisfying.
What my career has looked like to date: I studied nursing in the Phillipines, then came to Australia and started working in a factory until I was offered a role in the hotel as an F&B Attendant.
During your time at this Hotel, what has been your proudest moment? Those moments where the guests appreciate what you do for them.
What has been your greatest professional achievement to date? I received Employee of the Month in December 2016 and won it again in February 2017. Recently I was awarded the “Brandhearted Employee of the Quarter”.
What challenges do you face in this role? The challenge of saying “no” when need be.
Why do you like working in the accommodation industry? Meeting a great team and meeting guests from all different walks of life.
What message do you have to tell others about working in the accommodation industry? Enjoy the moment. As long as you know you’re doing the right thing, then be happy.
What advice would you give to people considering a career in Hotels? A simple smile is all it takes to make guests feel welcomed and warm.
Can you bust any Hotel career myths? It is never unexciting! Every day is a new experience.
Tell us about one of your best Hotel experiences? One of our guests once gave me a handmade gift with a letter. I got teary because it was so unexpected.
Do you manage people? If yes, what is that like? Yes, and it’s scary, hectic and fun.
